Our family hub and voice assistant, named after our dog, with iPhone and Apple Watch apps for medication reminders and seizure logging.
Daniel Rhody / Technology Nerd
I work on the web platform, private computing and AI. At home, I build things for my family.
Notes on where the web is headed and on the side projects I build with AI: a voice assistant named after our dog, a restaurant back office that talks to AI agents, and whatever I'm tinkering with next.

- AI-assisted onboarding in Fran-TrakHow Fran-Trak's setup wizard uses AI to read menus and sort them into tax classes, and why it never sets a tax rate.
- Opening Fran-Trak to AI agents: MCP, MCP Apps and WebMCPWhat each integration does in a restaurant back office, and what it took to make them work across AI assistants.
- Rocco: our family assistantA family hub and voice assistant on a home server, with Claude and Gemini for reasoning, NVIDIA Parakeet for local speech recognition, and our dogs for its personality.
- Tracking our daughter's seizures with RoccoA watch button, a teacher's app and a voice command replaced our estimates of absence seizures with a record her doctors can use, alongside her medication doses.
